Award-winning photographer, videographer & cinematographer based in The Netherlands

My name is Joy Cremers. I’m 21 years old and I’m a photographer with a passion for capturing real life, natural light and human stories. My journey began in secondary school at the Valuascollege in Venlo, where I joined the Topklas Kunst and first discovered the magic of photography. After that, I studied Photography at SintLucas in Eindhoven, and I have now completed my education there.

I currently serve as the first city photographer of Venlo. Over the past two years I’ve had the privilege of seeing my work recognized through several awards, including second place at the Vincent van Gogh Student Award. When I was 18, some of my photographs were exhibited for six months in the Rijksmuseum, an experience that deepened my commitment to photography.

Earlier in my development, I did internships with portrait photographer Frank Ruiter and fashion photographer Imke Panhuijzen, and I participated in a workshop taught by the team of Erwin Olaf. I also received funding for a journey to Rome, where I lived for a week among a community of nuns and documented their daily lives through photography. Before that trip to Rome, my series on the nuns in Steyl was displayed for six months in large illuminated lightbox installations throughout the streets of Steyl.

My work is rooted in using natural light, and I specialize in documentary and reportage photography. I love photographing people and their lives, capturing honest moments, real emotions and the stories often overlooked. I approach every shoot with curiosity, respect and a strong desire to tell stories through images.
