My curiosity about the life of a nun is something I had in me since I was a little child. For a project at school I got the privilege to visit the missionary sisters in Rome. This journey was really inspiring for me. To live like a sister for a few weeks and trying to understand their choices and purpose in life.

When I was the city photographer of Venlo I was being asked for this new project called “Venlo Verlicht” Therefor I had to highlight the small village Steyl. Steyl is known as a monastery village. Because of my curiosity about the sisters lives it was an easy choice for me to held this project about these sisters of Steyl.

For a long time I wanted to make a photo series about the life of my grandmother. She is sick and She has a tracheostomy and a nasogastric tube. This means she has to speak through a button or device and can barely eat. Besides this, she always remains positive and is a great example for me!
